If you’re curious about this, and I’ll bet $20 you aren’t, here’s a word cloud of every chord in my album. Give or take a couple transcription errors, I used 92 different chords and 1,549 chord changes. 92 chords – I don’t know if that’s a big number or not. I know there are some big chords that I’m pretty proud off – the middle section of “Keep Calm & Carry On” has a couple doozies like Ebmaj7#11 and one of the best-fitting 9th chords I’ve ever written*. But, as you probably knew already, this is a little exercise in naval-gazing by me, and I’m putting it on the site mostly to justify the preposterous amount of time I spent working on it.
Thanks to word-it-out.com for building a word cloud generator that’s customizable enough to let me do this. The rest all stripped the #s and (b5)s and all that.
*9th chords, for me at least, are extremely awesome and extremely difficult to use properly. That’s why you only see a couple. Major 7th chords, however, are basically my songwriting crutch.
