The Theme Songs Project
In late November, 2009, I bought an audio interface – the first piece of gear necessary to build the little home studio I had been planning for years. Excited to try it out, I spent the weekend working on a little 30-second song about my friend Joe Scheidt, who is a mighty fine fellow. I wanted to surprise him with his little theme song, have a laugh about it, and move on to other projects.
When I showed my brother Joe’s song, he said “Hey! I want a theme song!” So, I made a few more for him and his girlfriend. At this point, I joked to my girlfriend about putting up a website offering commissioned theme songs for about the price of a pizza. So she made me a site, which I published and tweeted about and figured a total of 8 people would ever look at.
Then, my friend Jonathan Coulton mentioned my site on the Twitter, and all hell broke loose.
A month and a half later, I finished producing 21 more theme songs for people ranging from a 3-month old girl to an 80-year old professor; from an alter-ego to a webcomic. It was a blast to learn about these wonderful people and try to capture their stories in less than 60 seconds.
I will occasionally reopen the theme song shop, so check back every once and a while to see if I have anything brewing. Follow me on Twitter (@unmodisch) to get the scoop when I have theme songs available.
